It’s the end of the summer. I cannot believe how fast it went buy. It was a blur. My husband and I were very busy. There were grad parties, mini-family reunion, and vacations. Here’s a brief outline:

June

Lance & Heather’s Wedding

Grad Parties (Kenny & Krystal)

Mini family reunion

July

8th – 10th – Camping at Verona Beach, NY

22nd – 24th – NYC (Yankees Game!)

August

Jason & Thu’s Wedding

12th – 21st – Vero Beach and Walt Disney World (will do a post about this trip soon)

One thing that sucked was that I’ve developed RSI in both my forearms. I’ve been seeing a massage therapist and a chiropractor since the beginning of July. I’ve also bought a new keyboard and mouse. I’m doing a lot better now then I was a month ago. Hopefully, in time it will lessen. I’ve been experimenting with various setups with my desk at work. Tried a standing desk, adjusting seat, and etc. My desk is not built for a short person. This condition has seriously affected me being on the computer. But at least it’s not carpal tunnel.

I start teaching again. Why is there a class on Labor Day!?!

And he says yes. He falls asleep and as I drift off, I remember how it was…the beginning of our relationship.

These two articles were sent to me through some colleagues and got me pondering:

Designers that code: a response to Jared Spool

Programming is for Girls

I’m a month away from hitting my 3 year mark at Cynergy. As I get closer, I start to reflect on how I got here, what I am doing now, and where I want to go. I started off wanting to do UX but ended up as a Programmer.

One thing that I have been trying to work on is balancing my design vs programming side. I’ve been programming so much, that I often have a strong urge to create.

But what do I want to create and will it suffice?

In my current project, I’ve been tasked to do some refactoring. It’s amazing and humbling to look back at old code and see how far a person has come along. With every task that I have been assigned, my skills as a programmer has grown. Sometimes, I wonder if my design side is diminishing because of that. What can I do, to keep my design skills as sharp?

After being on the computer all day, I come home and avoid the computer. I just don’t have the energy or desire at this time..

Last week (5/29/11 – 6/2/11), I went to Chicago with a few of my closest friends (W,V, and S) for a mini-vacay. Chicago is a different feel from New York City. Not so touristy, cleaner, and people aren’t as nice. According to my friends, no one thanks for holding the door open (etc). I didn’t really notice, or maybe I was that oblivious.

An itinerary of what happened:

Sunday

I arrived to Chicago. My flight was delayed by.. a lot. My flight was supposed to leave at 10 am ish, but ended up leaving at 2:15 pm. Arrived to the Marriot at Magnificent Mile.

Dinner at Pompei Little Italy.

Monday

Brunch at Eatt (very good and affordable)

Baseball game at Wrigley Field – Cubs vs Astros. (Cubs lost) (My first baseball game ever! Was fun. Love the atmosphere)

Headed to Millenium Park – for concert, checked out Cloud Gate. (The bean is fascinating.)

Dinner at Emilio’s Sol y Nieve (tapas) (not bad)

Tuesday

Brunch at Cosi (it’s like Panera’s)

Adler Planetarium (meh)

John G Shedd Aquarium (meh)

Dinner at The Purple Pig (Holy crap! It was good! Although some of the stuff can get salty, loved the dessert – expresso over toasted cinnamon ice cream)

Skydeck at Willis Towers (decent)

Wednesday

Museum of Science and Industry (a lot of kids, saw the body exhibit there…a little freaky…especially the fetus/babies….)

Field Museum (not bad)

The Art Institute of Chicago (I only had two hours, in which I covered the entire top floor, and part of the lower level. Must go there again to finish.)

Architecture Tour (Wow, I was on a boat! Learned a lot.)

Pizzeria Uno (Deep dish pizza was not bad. Buttery crust.)

Thursday

Home!
